In recent years, lab-grown diamonds have gained popularity as a more sustainable and ethical alternative to mined diamonds. However, there are still many misconceptions and myths surrounding lab-grown diamonds that often prevent consumers from making informed purchasing decisions. In this blog post, we will debunk some of these myths and separate fact from fiction.

Myth #1: Lab-grown diamonds are fake

One of the most common myths about lab-grown diamonds is that they are fake or synthetic. However, this couldn't be further from the truth. Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds, made of the same chemical composition and crystal structure as natural diamonds. The only difference is that they are created in a laboratory setting, rather than being mined from the earth.

Myth #2: You can tell the difference between a Lab-grown diamond and a mined diamond

Many people believe that lab-grown diamonds are easy to spot because they lack the unique characteristics and imperfections found in natural diamonds. This is not true as lab-grown diamonds are virtually indistinguishable from natural diamonds, even under a microscope. The only way to tell for sure whether a diamond is lab-grown or mined is through specialized testing, such as spectroscopy or X-ray diffraction. A lab-grown diamond grows in an controlled environment and because of this the lattice of the diamond is formed better than if it had been formed in ground due to the harsher conditions experienced by natural diamonds.

Myth #3: Lab-grown diamonds are lower quality

Another myth about lab-grown diamonds is that they are lower quality than natural diamonds. However, this is not necessarily true. Lab-grown diamonds can be of high quality, with the same clarity, color, and cut as natural diamonds. In fact, because they are created in a controlled environment, lab-grown diamonds often have fewer inclusions and flaws than natural diamonds. Making lab-grown diamonds superior in quality in almost all areas.

In conclusion, lab-grown diamonds are a real and valuable alternative to natural diamonds, and many of the myths surrounding them are simply untrue. However when shopping for a diamond it is still important to understand what to look for in terms of cut, colour, clarity and carat.
